An Analysis Of The Black Knight Space Anomaly
By Raymond Towers
“During the time of troubles, when the sun is between the earth and Venus, i.e. from the point of view of Earth Venus is hidden by the sun, the Watchers will be exposed through the powers of radio-telescopy and related disciplines will observe an Anomaly, and as they focus on it they come to the realization that it is a strong indication of a real UFO. The readings are caused by an instrument sent by the Watchers to observe mankind. The scientists and the populace will learn more about the probe and the Watchers. But internal dissension will be created for fundamentalists because the existence of aliens is not consistent with their worldview. This will take place in approximately 1997 or 1998. The Watchers are returning to mankind at this time because they are trying to help him through gentle prodding and increasing spiritual love. They have always kept an eye on us and have observed our growth and development. They’re looking forward to the day we can join the universal community and help with their project in a way that’s unique to us. – Nostradamus, page 262, c4-28
Let’s take a critical look at the Black Knight space anomaly. This is a strange object that was spotted, allegedly, as early as 1899 by Nikolai Tesla, who worked in Colorado Springs at the time. There are many reports that the object emits radio signals, and also accounts of eyewitnesses with good to high credibility that claim to have seen, tracked or photographed it. The speculation is that the BKS, or Black Knight Satellite, is 13,000 years old, weights 15 tons, and orbits in a polar orbit, that is north to south, as opposed to most satellites that orbit roughly along the equator, west to east. The key evidence for the existence of the Black Knight is Tesla’s testimony and pictures taken by Space Shuttle Endeavor in 1998. Also, this object is said to be able to avoid being observed, and to avoid collisions with asteroids, by intelligently moving out of the way. I will say here at the start that I am a proponent that this is an unknown object, and older than modern satellites. Following is the timeline of key dates involving the BKS:
“The nature of my experiments precluded the possibility of the changes being produced by atmospheric disturbances, as has been rashly asserted by some. It was some time afterward when the thought flashed upon my mind that the disturbances might be due to an intelligent control. Although I could not decipher their meaning, it was impossible for me to think of them as having been entirely accidental. The feeling is constantly growing on me that I had been the first to hear the greeting of one planet to another… I was not merely beholding a vision, but had caught sight of a great and profound truth.” – Nikolai Tesla, Talking With Planets
1899 – On multiple occasions, Nikolai Tesla discovers a regular signal from space, which he attributes to extraterrestrial intelligence. His first impression is that the signal came from Mars. After further analysis, he changes in mind and states these signals come from somewhere else in space.
Counterclaim: Scientists speculate that Tesla might have picked up electrical disturbances from storms on Jupiter, or similar disturbances from pulsars.
My opinion: Previously, I thought Tesla’s evidence was stronger than this. After my research into Electric Universe Theory, I think there are too many potential sources out there that might cause electromagnetic fluctuations. I’m siding with the debunkers here.
???? – Guglielmo Marconi is also reported as having picked up a strange radio signal from space.
1928 – Eindhoven, Holland, also Norway, 1929 French vessel in South China Sea – Radio signals (Long Delay Echoes) were sent out in controlled transmissions, and their returning echoes were analyzed. The returning signals were irregular when compared to the originals. The anomaly was attributed to disturbances in the ionosphere. Note that the pitch and frequency of the original signals did not change, but the spacing did.
Counterclaim: Up to 15 possible explanations for the Long Delay Echoes have been proposed, but this is still a mysterious and unexplained phenomenon.
My opinion: I’m 50/50 on this one. I don’t like that the spacing changed, but the rest of the signals were the same. It doesn’t exactly say alien intelligence, but it’s not easy to say it wasn’t done intelligently, either. Something natural that would have disturbed the spacing surely should have disturbed the pitch or frequency as well.
1932 – Scientists confirm the existence of a signal from space. This gives birth to the field of radio astronomy.
1950s – The US Department Of Defense appointed astronomer Clyde Tombaugh to search for an unknown object said to be in orbit around Earth. This was the astronomer who discovered Pluto in 1930. The results of Tombaugh’s study were never released.
1953 – Dr. La Paz, from the University of New Mexico, reports a blip of unknown origin.
Pentagon scare over the observance of two previously unobserved satellites orbiting the earth has dissipated with the identification of the objects as natural, not artificial satellites. Dr. Lincoln LaPaz, expert on extraterrestrial bodies from the University of New Mexico, headed the identification project. – Aviation Week And Space Technology, 1954
1954 – According to this unconfirmed report, a well-known radio host, identified as JM, asked a friend with high security clearances to get some information on the Black Knight. This friend came back and said the information was classified as THREATENED WITH DEATH. (That’s how the source wrote it.) The friend did give two dimensions for the craft, claiming it was 10 feet by 70 feet. I guess the third measurement threatens national security. I hate these vague reports!
Update: Popular WGN Chicago radio host John Mills had UFO researcher John Otto on as a guest. (CIA documents refer to Otto as ‘the villain’ and ‘the scoundrel.’) During the broadcast, they attempted to send a message to the unknown satellite. The message was ‘come in outer space.’ The message was sent, the microphones were turned off to listen, but no reply came back. When the show was over, the two men went home.
The story isn’t over, though. Four callers reported to the radio station that they’d heard an alien message. One call came from two sisters, who said they heard what sounded like Jingle Bells being played. Otto interviewed the sisters and listened to their recording. He claimed it did sound like the Christmas tune, with a strange telex noise (sort of like the noises a typewriter or fax machine might make) in the background.
In 1955, the Journal Of Space Flight interviewed The Meier sisters. When the CIA heard about the recording, they falsely dressed up as Air Force personnel and got the sisters to hand the tape over. In 1957, a NICAP researcher became interested in the recording and contacted the Air Force, who of course didn’t have it. When the researcher went to President Eisenhower for answers, CIA Director Dulles reported him to the FBI as being a government subversive, or troublemaker. The CIA lied repeatedly, even to a US congressman, until months later the researcher finally gave up.
1954 – Newspapers from San Francisco and St. Louis report that one or two artificial satellites are already in orbit around the Earth. Russia’s Sputnik did not go up until 1957. USMC Major Donald Keyhoe confirmed that the US Navy knew about these unknown satellites, so they were real anomalies. Keyhoe was a big proponent that UFOs should be taken seriously. Update: Tombaugh and La Paz were working under Keyhoe, from information I just learned from another source. La Paz claimed one satellite was 400 miles out, while the second was 600 miles out. The claim was made that these satellites might be space rocks, but was quickly dismissed by other scientists who theorized that Earth could not capture large rocks at that distance.
Counterclaim: The newspaper articles reporting one or two unknown satellites were actually from the synopsis of a book written by Keyhoe. I’m not sure how this debunks the articles or Keyhoe’s statements. Keyhoe had high credibility. He was a Marine Corps Major, and longtime director of NICAP (National Investigative Committee on Aerial Phenomena). This was a government entity.
My opinion: Keyhoe’s job was to study phenomena just like this. Because he wrote this in a book debunks it? I don’t think so.
1957 – An unknown object is tracked as shadowing the orbit of Sputnik I.
1957 – Dr. Corrales of the Communications Ministry of Venezuela takes a picture of the object. This object may have been Sputnik II, which was launched only two months earlier. The problem is that the object Corrales pictured was moving east to west, instead of west to east like Sputnik.
“The object doesn’t even have the decency to maintain a regular schedule.” – Robert L. Johnson, Adler Planetarium
1960s – Ham radio operators hear a strange signal from space. One operator traces it to the constellation Epsilon Bootes, and comes up with a date of 13,000 years ago.
1960s – Jocelyn Bell, an astronomer at Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory, discovered strange signals from space that were later determined to be of artificial origin. She went on to publish an article describing her findings in the scientific journal Nature.
1960 – NORAD detects a radar echo, causing alarm for the US military. The object they’ve discovered does not have a regular orbit, and comes and goes mysteriously. The first impression was that Russia had launched an undetected satellite. This is when it was learned that the object was in a polar orbit. Later, Russia was in a panic as well, as they had spotted the same object. At an estimated 15 tons, the object was too big and too heavy to be launched by the technology of the time. This is when the object was first labeled the Black Knight.
1960 – A TIME magazine article describes a mysterious dark satellite on a regular orbit. Weeks later, this object was explained as being an American satellite that had ‘gone astray.’
Three weeks ago, headlines announced that the U.S. had detected a mysterious “dark” satellite wheeling overhead on a regular orbit. There was nervous speculation that it might be a surveillance satellite launched by the Russians, and it brought the uneasy sensation that the U.S. did not know what was going on over its own head. – TIME, 1960
1960 – Grumman Aircraft Corporation takes the first official photograph of the anomaly, from Long Island. It was described as a glowing red object. By the time it was pictured, people on the ground were already observing and tracking the object for two weeks. In one account, the object was said to be traveling east to west, contrary to all other satellites, and was estimated to move three times faster. Other reliable witnesses from all over the world were also tracking this same object.
Counterclaim: In 1992, the CIA declassified documents stating the Black Knight anomaly was really part of a spy satellite program named Corona, and meant to take pictures of Soviet Russia. The object was said to be a large piece of debris from Discoverer 8. This debris, or ‘bucket,’ was impossible to recover, while the satellite it was attached to burned up on reentry. However, note that the picture from Long Island was taken seven months after the satellite was first spotted. (Those early satellites didn’t last very long in orbit.) Many people all over the world also spotted the red object. Information on a study into this red object was never made public.
Update: Critics of the Discoverer theory state that astronomers of the time knew exactly where the pieces of the used rockets were. They claim the BKS sighting was nowhere near the debris. Also, the US Navy contradicted itself and the US Air Force by saying the debris came from Discoverer 5 and not D8. Previously, the Navy had also said they knew exactly where all these Discoverer satellites and their pieces were found in the atmosphere. Adding to this, there is a report that the CIA investigated a satellite sighting made by passengers on a Swedish plane. The Swedish press referenced a pilot captain’s report and a Stockholm astronomer’s report. The CIA’s own files describe a bright, satellite-like object making a sharp 90-degree turn. This no longer sounds like a used up piece of rocket, does it?
My opinion: This counterclaim totally ignores the facts that the orbit was irregular and that it appeared and disappeared from radar. Does that mean the CIA had satellite stealth technology in the 1960s? It makes sense that the satellite would have a polar orbit, so it could take better pictures of Russia. Still, I don’t like how the CIA was involved in covert satellite technology back then, and based on the past history of the organization, I won’t believe a thing they say until I have a second source to confirm it. Also, I’m suspicious of so many changes in the official narrative.
1963 – Astronaut Gordon Cooper observes a glowing green object while in orbit. The object was also tracked by the Muchea tracking station in Australia. Cooper’s sighting moved from east to west, contrary to all other satellites of that time. Reporters were not allowed to ask Cooper about this object when he returned to Earth. Why not? The official story: A spacecraft malfunction released carbon dioxide, which gave Cooper hallucinations. I guess those hallucinations affected the observatory on Earth, too.
Counterclaim: Gordon Cooper’s transcript does not mention a green UFO, and neither do records from the observatory in Australia. Debunked? Nope. There are plenty of cases where witnesses were intimated or threatened into keeping their mouths shut.
My opinion: Not debunked. Like I said, there are too many cases of people being told to be quiet, including radar operators and airplane pilots. If you talk, you’re out the door and out of a job. Besides, the carbon dioxide story is ridiculous. Cooper would have died if he were stuck in a tiny spacecraft breathing that stuff. Are we expected to believe that the malfunction fixed itself, or that the carbon dioxide changed back into oxygen at some point?
“Start Here. Our home is Epsilon Bootis. Which is a double star. We live on the 6th planet of 7 – check that, 6th of 7 – counting outwards from the sun which is the larger of the two. Our 6th planet has one moon, our 4th planet has three, our first and third planets have one. Our probe is in the orbit of your moon. This updates the position of Arcturus shown on your maps.” – Duncan Lunan’s translation of the radio signal
1970s – Duncan Lunan, a professor at the Scottish Association For Technology And Research, studied the various signal reports and came up with a way to plot them. He also pinpointed the anomaly to be coming from Epsilon Bootes, and gave an origin date for the transmission as 12,600 years ago.
Counterclaim: Duncan Lunan later admitted that his findings had errors. He retracted his claim that the radio signal was from Epsilon Bootes, or that it originated 12,600 years ago.
My opinion: Yeah, this one’s a big one. The 13,000 year age of the satellite is one of the huge claims proponents of BKS make. This group includes me, who had gone through Lunan’s early testimony, but had not read the part where he retracted it. However, we still have a second report that a HAM radio operator also calculated the same time and place that Lunan did. Lunan’s claim might be debunked, but what about the earlier one? By the way, Arcturus is also known as Hokulea, the guiding star in Hawaiian mythology.
1998 – Space Shuttle Endeavor takes several pictures of an unknown object. NASA labels the object as ‘space junk.’ The official explanation was that this was a blanket, floating in space forever, because blankets are known to do that. Really, I’m not kidding. I threw one up in the air yesterday, and it’s still up there, floating forever.
Counterclaim: Video from the ISS (International Space Station) shows astronauts wrapping thermal blankets around outside parts of the space station. One thermal blanket gets loose and floats away. When the astronauts are unable to retrieve it, they film it spinning into Earth’s atmosphere. This same blanket is what Endeavor takes pictures of later.
My opinion: This is another huge pillar that holds up the BKS lore. I’m actually peeved here, because I didn’t think a floating space blanket could be the same thing as the object shown in the space shuttle pictures. After seeing the ISS footage, I’ve changed my mind. The 1998 pictures are most likely the thermal blanket, as claimed. I guess blankets really can float in the atmosphere forever.
Conclusion: I’m not a radio astronomer. I have to take it on faith that many scientists in this field know what they’re talking about, when it comes to reporting signals that are regular, are observed on multiple occasions, come from space, and are determined to be artificial. What I am is an observer who collects information in order to put together a qualified opinion.
The first thing that troubles me is that these radio signals may not all have a common source. The second is that witnesses describe glowing green or red objects, while the NASA images show a morphing form colored in gunmetal gray. Unless the object in question changes colors before a witness, there is nothing to show these sightings are all the same object. Just as with the signals, the sightings may not be a single object, but several different things. Government intimidation, findings that are never released and questionable official stories further obfuscate the matter.
What connects Tesla’s original signal to the morphing blanket-like object pictured by NASA? Well, nothing, really. The radio signals come from space, while the sightings are all occurring in Earth’s atmosphere. We have numerous reports of lights and sounds, and tantalizing rumors of an intelligent object that can move and hide at will, and that might be an ancient object. It looks to me as if many of these unrelated reports have been strung together without any real backbone. It is a fact that credible witnesses all over the world report mysterious and unexplainable sightings in the heavens. However, there is nothing scientifically tangible that points to this one, single object that everybody is talking about. With the NASA pictures credibly debunked, what do we really have as proof? Not a whole lot, as far as the Black Knight is concerned. This is rampant speculation at its best. Even though I originally wanted to believe this anomaly was a real, fantastic thing at first, that could prove the existence of intelligent life on other planets, I can see now that it’s nothing more than urban legend.
